Ragdoll Cat - information

cat, Cats, pet, pets, Ragdoll Cat,
Ragdoll cats are a specific breed of cat that originated in the 1960's. The name comes from the fact that many ragdoll cats will go limp when you pick them up, similar to what a doll feels like. Unlike most breeds of "independent" cats, the ragdoll is much more social, often following its owner around craving more attention.
The ragdolls behavior often mimics dog behavior rather than typical cat behavior. "Mans best friend" in the cat world if you will. It is a loyal and loving companion.

The ragdoll is listed with the Guinness book of world records as the largest cat, with males ranging from 12-20lbs., and females weighing from 10-15lbs. The body is usually stocky with short legs, and generally large in size in comparison to other cat breeds. Ragdolls have long, thick fur coats with markings that resemble the Siamese cat breed. The four marking patterns for ragdolls are: bi-color, van, mitted, and pointed. This cat breed usually comes in six colors: seal, chocolate, lilac, blue, cream, and red. Points may be solid, lynx, or tortie.

While ragdolls do a good job of cleaning themselves, you will want to make sure to brush them to avoid matting of their fur. Ragdolls are known for an easy going nature, although each individual has a different personality. Before purchasing your ragdoll, make sure you are informed of proper diet, veterinary needs, liter box needs, and cat proofing your home so your ragdoll is happy and healthy. After all, your ragdoll will be your companion for an average of 15-20 years!
